A new era has officially arrived at Naturena. Kaizer Chiefs kicked off their pre-season training under the guidance of newly appointed head coach Fernando Da Cruz. The French-Portuguese tactician, who replaces interim duo Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, faces the massive task of rebuilding the Glamour Boys into genuine Betway Premiership title contenders.

Speaking to the club’s media team, Da Cruz expressed his pride and determination to restore the glory days:

“I’m very happy to be here. Kaizer Chiefs is a massive institution with passionate supporters and a proud history. My focus now is on building a strong connection with the players, instilling a winning mentality, and working together to achieve the success our fans deserve.”

The Transfer Market: Reinforcements on the Horizon

While defender Thabo Moloisane is the only confirmed arrival so far, the Chiefs’ board is working overtime behind the scenes. The club is heavily linked with several high-profile attackers and midfielders to overhaul the squad before the new season kicks off.

Here is a breakdown of the major transfer targets currently on Amakhosi’s radar:

  • Lucas Ribeiro: The most blockbuster name on the wishlist. The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Cultural Leonesa playmaker is currently a free agent, and securing his signature would be the biggest coup of the transfer window.
  • Khanyisa Mayo: Chiefs are reportedly working hard on a permanent deal for the Bafana Bafana striker.
  • Tshegofatso Mabasa: The former Orlando Pirates forward is a free agent after his loan spell at Stellenbosch FC ended. However, Chiefs’ pursuit of Mabasa heavily depends on whether they land their primary target, Mayo.
  • Kabelo Dlamini: To solve their creative midfield issues, Amakhosi are closely monitoring the Orlando Pirates midfielder, hoping to swoop in if the Buccaneers fail to extend his contract.

Balancing the Attack

If Mayo arrives, he will join a heavily contested frontline featuring Flávio Silva, Etiosa Ighodaro, Ashley du Preez, and Tashreeq Morris. With Silva coming off an impressive season, and both Du Preez and Morris linked with potential exits, Da Cruz will need to carefully balance his squad depth before the window closes.
