Antonio van Wyk details his decision to leave Austrian club SV Ried and sign for Mamelodi Sundowns to win trophies and elevate his career.

Chasing silverware over European staying power! South African winger Antonio van Wyk has opened up about his decision to end his two-season stint in Austria with SV Ried to sign for reigning African giants Mamelodi Sundowns.

While many South African talents dream of extended careers in Europe, the 24-year-old former Stellenbosch FC speedster admitted that when the crossroad arrived, the prospect of winning silverware with Masandawana was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.

In His Own Words: Elevating His Game with the African Champions

Speaking on the official Sundowns Pitchside Podcast, Van Wyk explained that Sundowns’ culture of continuous success was the decisive factor behind his return home:

“I would say the history of the club, trophies as well. It’s guaranteed that this team will win a trophy or two every season.”

“Obviously that’s a big aspect, as a player you obviously wanna be a decorated player in terms of trophies and numbers as well. So, I thought to help my game, I’m going to have to take the next step, and if it’s not in Europe, it should be the African champions.”

Antonio van Wyk: By The Numbers
