Kaizer Chiefs will face a different challenge when they travel to KwaZulu-Natal to take on Richards Bay in the Betway Premiership on 26 August.
Richards Bay have confirmed that the fixture will no longer be played at the originally scheduled Moses Mabhida Stadium. Instead, the match has been moved to the smaller Princess Magogo Stadium due to unforeseen circumstances.
The venue switch could be significant for Amakhosi, who have enjoyed strong support and positive results at Moses Mabhida Stadium in recent seasons.
Richards Bay Move Could Give Chiefs a Tougher Test
The change to Princess Magogo Stadium could provide Richards Bay with an even stronger home advantage.
The Natal Rich Boys have developed a reputation for making life difficult for some of the league’s biggest clubs on home soil. Their previous home ground, Richards Bay Stadium, produced several memorable results last season, including a victory over Kaizer Chiefs.
However, Richards Bay are currently unable to use their usual home venue because it is undergoing maintenance.
Princess Magogo Stadium will therefore serve as their temporary home, and the club will hope to make the new venue equally difficult for visiting teams.
Chiefs will need to adapt quickly to the change as they look to maintain their strong start to the league campaign.
Kaizer Chiefs Focused on the Betway Premiership
With Kaizer Chiefs already out of the MTN8, their attention can now turn entirely to the Betway Premiership.
The Glamour Boys are currently second on the league table, level on points with Orlando Pirates and separated only by goal difference.
With several new signings making an impact, Chiefs have shown signs of becoming a much stronger side compared with previous seasons.
Their trip to Princess Magogo, however, could provide another stern examination of their title credentials.
Richards Bay will be hoping the new venue brings them luck, while Chiefs will be determined to leave KwaZulu-Natal with all three points.
Can Amakhosi overcome the venue change and continue their title challenge?
