The South African Football Association (SAFA) is demanding that outgoing Bafana Bafana team manager Vincent Tseka account for R700,000 reportedly provided to him for daily expenses during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to SAFA, some of the funds remain unreconciled, and Tseka has been given until Monday, 31 August to provide the outstanding receipts or resolve the matter.
Tseka has reportedly disputed the amount in question and asked for additional time to go through his records and locate any missing invoices.
SAFA wants the World Cup funds accounted for
The issue was raised by SAFA chief financial officer Gronnie Hluyo during a briefing to Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts and Culture.
Hluyo explained that team managers are given funds to cover expenses while travelling with the national team. However, SAFA’s records indicate that part of the money allocated to Tseka has not yet been reconciled.
Tseka has denied any wrongdoing and maintains that he is working with the association to resolve the outstanding financial records.
The matter is therefore currently one of financial reconciliation, rather than a confirmed finding of misuse of funds.
Tseka’s Bafana tenure ends after World Cup
Tseka had already indicated that he intended to retire from his position following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His contract reportedly ended on 31 July, although he has remained involved while the outstanding financial records are being reviewed.
His time as Bafana Bafana team manager has also been marked by several administrative controversies.
One of the most notable incidents involved Teboho Mokoena, who featured against Lesotho despite reportedly being suspended. The administrative error threatened to have serious consequences for South Africa’s World Cup qualification campaign.
There were also reports of delays affecting Bafana’s travel to North America for the World Cup because some members of the travelling party had not secured their visas in time.
SAFA begins search for a new team manager
With Tseka’s departure already planned, SAFA has moved ahead with the recruitment process.
The association has advertised the Bafana Bafana team manager position, opening the way for a new official to take charge of the national team’s administrative affairs.
For now, however, the focus remains on resolving the outstanding R700,000 reconciliation.
Tseka has until 31 August to provide the relevant documentation or settle the outstanding amount with SAFA.
