New Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has wasted little time putting his technical team together, confirming Musi Matlaba and Kabelo Rangoago as the first members of his backroom staff.
Mosimane introduced the two coaches during his first press conference since returning to the national team. He explained that both Matlaba and Rangoago have moved into coaching roles after earning the necessary qualifications.
Matlaba will continue to focus on match analysis and player data, an area in which he has previously worked as an analyst. Rangoago, meanwhile, has been confirmed as an assistant coach, while still bringing his previous specialist experience to the team.
Mosimane said the pair should now be viewed as coaches rather than simply analysts or trainers because of their newly acquired qualifications.
Another Assistant Coach Still To Come
The Bafana boss also revealed that his technical team is not yet complete. A third assistant coach is expected to join, although the appointment has been delayed by contractual issues involving coaches currently tied to other clubs or organisations.
“We are working on that, it’s not easy, some coaches are under contract. We will announce that later,” Mosimane explained.
The confirmation of his first two assistants comes at an important time, with South Africa’s 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign approaching quickly.
Mosimane will need his technical team settled as soon as possible as Bafana prepare for their opening qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea in September, followed by a crucial double-header against Kenya in November.
With the clock already ticking, Mosimane has begun assembling the team he hopes can build on Bafana Bafana’s recent progress and guide South Africa to another major tournament.
