Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana could be heading for another new chapter in his club career, with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca reportedly interested in the South African forward.
According to Unplayable, Wydad are among the clubs monitoring the 27-year-old, who is currently a free agent following his recent departure from Tunisian powerhouse Espérance.
The reported interest comes at a pivotal point in Mokwana’s career, with the winger also said to have options in Saudi Arabia and Libya. A return to South African football has reportedly not been ruled out either.
For now, however, Wydad have emerged as one of the potential destinations for the Bafana international.
Mokwana’s career has taken him across Africa
Mokwana’s journey to the upper levels of African football has been built through several important moves.
Born in KwaMhlanga in 1999, the winger initially made his name in South Africa’s National First Division with Platinum City Rovers.
His performances earned him a move to Sekhukhune United in 2022, where his pace and versatility helped establish him as an important attacking player.
His progress at club level also brought international recognition, with Mokwana becoming part of the Bafana Bafana setup.
The next major step came in 2024 when he moved to Espérance, joining one of the continent’s most successful clubs.
Mokwana subsequently spent time in Saudi Arabia on loan with Al-Hazem before his spell with the Tunisian giants came to an end.
He is now assessing his options as a free agent.
Wydad could offer another African opportunity
Wydad Casablanca would represent a significant potential destination for Mokwana.
The Moroccan club is one of the continent’s most decorated sides and has a strong tradition in African club competitions, including the CAF Champions League.
A move to Casablanca would also see Mokwana continue his career outside South Africa and potentially provide another opportunity to compete at the highest level of African club football.

Wydad’s relationship with South African football has been strengthened in recent years through the involvement of coach Rulani Mokwena.
Mokwena was appointed Wydad head coach in July 2024 after establishing himself as one of the prominent coaches in South African football during his time with Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Moroccan club has also previously featured South African players, including Thembinkosi Lorch and Cassius Mailula.
Mokwena’s appointment followed his success with Sundowns, including their victory over Wydad in the African Football League final before he subsequently took charge of the Moroccan giants.
That history adds another layer to the reported interest in Mokwana, although the winger’s next destination remains undecided.
Saudi Arabia and Libya also options
Wydad are reportedly not the only club interested in securing Mokwana’s services.
Options in Saudi Arabia and Libya are also said to be available, while a return to the South African domestic game remains possible.
The winger’s status as a free agent could make him an attractive proposition for clubs looking to add an experienced attacking player without having to negotiate a transfer fee with Espérance.
