Bafana Bafana have made a winning start under Pitso Mosimane, defeating Guinea 2-1 at Orlando Stadium to move to the top of Group D in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.
South Africa found the breakthrough in the 30th minute when Ime Okon put Bafana ahead, giving Mosimane’s side a narrow advantage heading into the second half.
Guinea responded after the break and eventually found an equaliser through Cissé in the 68th minute, putting pressure back on the hosts.
Kabini delivers the winning goal
Bafana Bafana refused to settle for a draw and regained the lead in the 77th minute through Samukelo Kabini.
The goal proved decisive as South Africa held on to secure a valuable 2-1 victory in front of the Orlando Stadium crowd.
The result gives Mosimane a positive start as he begins his second spell in charge of the national team.
Bafana Bafana climb to the top
South Africa’s victory was made even more significant by the result in the other Group D fixture.
Kenya and Eritrea played to a 1-1 draw, allowing Bafana Bafana to move to the summit of the group.
The result puts South Africa in a strong early position as the race for qualification to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations gets underway.
For Mosimane, the immediate objective will be to build on the victory and ensure Bafana maintain their momentum in the remaining qualifiers.
With three points secured against Guinea, South Africa can now look ahead to their next Group D challenge with renewed confidence.
