Bafana looking to build on winning start
South Africa head into the match after opening their AFCON qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Guinea.
Ime Okon put Bafana ahead before Guinea levelled through Seydouba Cisse.
South Africa ultimately secured all three points when Samukele Kabini came off the bench to score the decisive goal.
The victory also marked a winning start to Pitso Mosimane’s latest competitive spell in charge of Bafana Bafana.
Another victory against Eritrea would strengthen South Africa’s position in Group D and maintain the momentum from their opening qualifier.
Mosimane forced to make changes
Bafana will, however, have to cope without Teboho Mokoena and Aubrey Modiba.
Both Mamelodi Sundowns players picked up injuries during the Guinea match and have subsequently been ruled out of the Eritrea fixture.
Modiba suffered hamstring tightness and was substituted, while Mokoena played through discomfort after Bafana had used their available substitution opportunities.
Their absence leaves Mosimane with selection decisions to make ahead of kick-off.
Meanwhile, Eritrea will enter the contest with confidence after earning a 1-1 draw against Kenya in Nairobi in their opening Group D fixture.
Nahom Girmai Netabay gave Eritrea the lead before Kenya equalised.
Everything is set for Wednesday’s clash
With both teams having taken points from their opening matches, the Cairo encounter provides another important test in the race for AFCON qualification.
For South African supporters, the good news is that the match is readily accessible across SABC 2, SABC Plus and SABC radio.
Will Bafana Bafana make it two wins from two in their AFCON qualifying campaign?
