South African attacker Relebohile Mofokeng is fast becoming one of the most talked-about young players in European football, with four clubs reportedly keeping close tabs on him after a blistering start in Belgium.
According to transfer journalist Ekrem Konur, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Brighton are all monitoring the 21-year-old, who joined Royale Union Saint-Gilloise from Orlando Pirates just three months ago.
A Fast Start in Belgium
Mofokeng completed his switch to Union SG on 2 July 2026, signing a four-year deal with an option for a fifth year. The reported fee of R65.3 million (€3.5 million) is a record for a domestic transfer.
He has settled quickly under coach David Hubert and become a key creative outlet for the side. His season so far:
- Belgian Super Cup (31 July): Came off the bench against Club Brugge and scored the decisive penalty in the shootout
- League debut (8 August): Scored against K.V.C. Westerlo
- Europa League (17 September): Scored in the 3-0 win over Viktoria Plzeň
- Overall: Four goals and one assist in nine appearances across all competitions, including three league goals and one league assist
He also impressed in a 2-0 victory over Royal Antwerp, where he controlled the tempo of the game. Hubert has noted that competition for places in the squad is stiff, but Mofokeng’s form is making him hard to leave out.
A Double for Bafana Bafana
His momentum carried into the national team on 30 September. In Cairo, he scored twice in South Africa’s 5-0 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying win over Eritrea, his first senior international goals.
He opened the scoring in the 19th minute, then struck again just before the break after dribbling past two defenders.
What Next?
In just three months, Mofokeng has gone from Orlando Pirates player to a name on the radar of Atletico Madrid, Napoli, Chelsea and Brighton. The test now is staying consistent at Union SG while winning regular minutes in an unfamiliar league.
