As Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns fine-tune their tactics for Saturday’s blockbuster MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium, two explosive wingers could hold the ultimate key to unlocking the trophy. Both Monnapule Saleng and Mohau Nkota are closing in on their first appearances of the season, setting the stage for high-impact cameos in Durban.
Mohau Nkota’s Sparkling Return for the Buccaneers
For Orlando Pirates, the potential inclusion of Mohau Nkota provides a massive tactical weapon. Having joined the Sea Robbers on loan from Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ettifaq, Nkota has been sidelined with injury but was recently spotted back in full training.
Head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou could look to unleash the pacy winger in the second half. Nkota’s electrifying speed and direct running could prove decisive against tired legs in the Sundowns backline as Pirates hunt an unprecedented fifth consecutive Wafa Wafa crown.
Monnapule Saleng’s Dramatic Plot Twist at Chloorkop
Meanwhile, the narrative surrounding Mamelodi Sundowns features a massive potential storyline: the return of Monnapule Saleng.
After uncertainty loomed over his future following reported friction with head coach Miguel Cardoso, Saleng’s return to training has raised hopes that he could feature against his former club. Former Sundowns midfielder Brent Carelse enthusiastically welcomed the winger’s reintegration:
“That’s good for him personally and good for the team. I think he’s a player we need, he’s got a lot of creativity and the fans obviously like him, they obviously would like to see him playing… So, hopefully he will get back into the squad and back into the field as quickly as possible.”
Having previously starred and scored in an MTN8 final for the Buccaneers, Saleng now possesses the ultimate inside knowledge and motivation to haunt his old side if called upon from the bench.
