Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune believes Elias Mokwana could be the attacking reinforcement Amakhosi need, backing the Bafana Bafana winger to make a significant impact at Naturena.
Khune has praised Mokwana’s dribbling ability, creativity and eye for goal, comparing his style of play to that of former Chiefs entertainer Jabu “Shuffle” Pule, who later became known as Jabu Mahlangu.
The 27-year-old Mokwana is reportedly available as a free agent following his departure from Tunisian club Espérance, making him a potential option for Chiefs as they consider strengthening their squad.
Khune Sees Jabu Pule’s Qualities in Mokwana
Speaking to Andile Ncube on Soccerzone, Khune expressed confidence in Mokwana’s ability to bring excitement and attacking quality to the Soweto giants.
The former goalkeeper highlighted the winger’s willingness to take on defenders, create opportunities for teammates and contribute goals.
“Definitely! Mokwana reminds me of Jabu ‘Shuffle’ Pule back then, formerly then, but now Mahlangu,” Khune said.
He went on to praise Mokwana’s skill and attacking confidence, adding that the player’s experience on the continental stage could make him a valuable addition to the Chiefs squad.
The comparison with Jabu Pule is particularly notable given the former Amakhosi star’s reputation for flair, creativity and entertaining supporters. Khune appears to believe Mokwana possesses similar qualities that could help bring a new dimension to Chiefs’ attack.
Why Mokwana’s Experience Could Benefit Amakhosi
For Khune, Mokwana’s potential value extends beyond what he can produce in the final third.
The former Chiefs captain believes the winger’s experience in African club football could help younger players develop while giving the team a player familiar with the demands of competing at continental level.
Khune suggested that Mokwana could become a source of guidance for emerging talents as the club looks to strengthen its ambitions of returning to African competition.
“These young boys will be looking up to him, and he’ll be holding their hands to say, ‘Guys, come with me, let’s go back to continental football. I know what it’s all about’,” Khune explained.
He added that Mokwana could help move the club forward if Chiefs secured his services.
The endorsement highlights the importance of combining youthful potential with experienced players who understand the demands of high-pressure football.
Could Elias Mokwana Be the Signing Chiefs Need?
Mokwana’s reported availability as a free agent could make him an appealing option for Kaizer Chiefs, although Khune’s public backing should not be mistaken for confirmation of a deal.
The winger’s ability to beat defenders, create scoring opportunities and contribute goals could offer Amakhosi another attacking option. His international experience and exposure to continental football may also strengthen his appeal.
However, any potential move would depend on the club’s recruitment plans and whether the parties reach an agreement. No signing has been confirmed in the information available here.
The discussion comes as Chiefs prepare for a high-profile Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, with supporters continuing to debate the changes needed to make the team more competitive.
Would Elias Mokwana be the right signing for Kaizer Chiefs? Khune believes the winger has the skill, experience and attacking qualities to make a difference. Now, Amakhosi supporters will be watching to see whether the club acts on that recommendation.
