The Springboks could be heading to Auckland and Christchurch for two highly anticipated Tests against the All Blacks next July, according to comments from New Zealand coach Dave Rennie.
The fixtures have not yet been officially announced, but Rennie appeared to reveal details of the proposed schedule during an interview with Newstalk.
South Africa and New Zealand are expected to meet twice in July 2027, shortly after the conclusion of the Super Rugby final, as both sides begin preparations for the Rugby World Cup later that year.
Rennie reveals possible Springboks venues
Speaking to Newstalk, Rennie said the All Blacks would host South Africa in Auckland and Christchurch.
“We play each other twice in July, straight after the Super Rugby final, like two weeks after that final,” Rennie said.
“We play them in Auckland and Christchurch.”
If confirmed, the two-Test series would provide both teams with an important opportunity to fine-tune their squads ahead of the World Cup.
Rennie also acknowledged that South Africa’s squad could look somewhat different next year, although he expects the core of the team and its playing approach to remain familiar.
“We’re going to play them a lot leading into the World Cup,” Rennie said.
Another major chapter in the rivalry
The Springboks and All Blacks remain two of the leading teams in world rugby, and their 2027 meetings could carry additional significance with the World Cup looming.
Rennie also pointed out that the tournament draw could potentially put the two sides on a quarter-final collision course if both teams top their respective pools.
That would add another layer to a rivalry that has already produced several memorable encounters in recent years.
For now, however, the focus is on the potential July Tests in New Zealand, with the official fixture announcement still awaited.
Springboks remain top of world rankings
South Africa currently sit at the summit of the World Rugby rankings, despite their recent defeat to Australia in Perth.
The Springboks have 93.09 points, ahead of New Zealand on 91.15.
Ireland occupy third place on 88.08, followed by France on 87.43 and England on 85.68.
