Discover Bafana Bafana’s biggest wins, from the 6-0 victory over Seychelles to the latest 5-0 triumph against Eritrea in AFCON 2027 qualifying.

Bafana Bafana have enjoyed plenty of memorable victories throughout their history, but only a handful stand out for the sheer size of the winning margin.

Pitso Mosimane’s side added another emphatic result to that list on 30 September 2026, cruising to a 5-0 victory over Eritrea in their AFCON 2027 qualifier in Cairo.

The result means Bafana now have three separate five-goal victories among their biggest wins, while one result remains clear at the top of the list.

Bafana Bafana’s biggest-ever wins

South Africa’s biggest victory from the results highlighted here came against Seychelles in October 2018.

Bafana recorded a commanding 6-0 win on 13 October 2018 during their AFCON qualifying campaign. The six-goal margin remains the biggest among these four emphatic victories.

The national team then matched a five-goal winning margin on three separate occasions.

5-0 vs Guatemala — 2010

Bafana’s first 5-0 result on this list came against Guatemala on 31 May 2010.

The international friendly was played shortly before the 2010 FIFA World Cup, with South Africa preparing for the tournament on home soil.

The result provided a major confidence boost ahead of the global showpiece.

5-0 vs Congo — 2024

Bafana repeated the scoreline more than a decade later when they defeated Congo 5-0 on 11 October 2024 in an AFCON qualifier.

It was another dominant performance during South Africa’s qualifying campaign and moved into the record books alongside the Guatemala result.

5-0 vs Eritrea — 2026

The latest addition came in Cairo on 30 September 2026, when Bafana produced another five-goal performance against Eritrea.

Relebohile Mofokeng was among the standout performers, scoring twice, while Oswin Appollis provided three assists as South Africa powered to a 5-0 victory.

The result followed Bafana’s 2-1 opening Group D victory over Guinea and gave Mosimane’s team another strong start to their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.
