South African actress and media personality Tebogo Thobejane has issued a strong public statement addressing the immense emotional distress and mental health toll caused by the ongoing criminal proceedings involving her ex-boyfriend, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala. Matlala is currently in custody, facing charges related to an alleged failed assassination attempt against the actress.

In a candid post shared on her Instagram account on Saturday, November 8, 2025, the former Muvhango star revealed the profound negative impact of the public scrutiny surrounding the case.
Reliving Trauma and Suffering Anxiety
Thobejane detailed how the constant media coverage forces her to relive the harrowing incident repeatedly, pushing her mental and emotional well-being to a breaking point.
“Over the past months, I have continued to endure public scrutiny, false narratives, and emotional distress surrounding an ongoing criminal case in which I am the victim. Each time the matter appears in court, I am forced to relive one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. This has taken a severe toll on my mental and emotional well-being. I am living with heightened anxiety and fear, constantly reminded of events I am trying to heal from,” she stated.

Warning Against Misinformation
Having faced relentless online mockery and the constant circulation of inaccurate information since speaking publicly about the attempted hit, Thobejane made a firm appeal for ethical and sensitive reporting.
She specifically warned bloggers, social media commentators, and online publications to cease spreading false narratives, stressing that this not only deepens her trauma but “undermines the seriousness of the justice process.”

Threat of Legal Action
Thobejane concluded her message with a clear warning: she will not tolerate further lies or invasions of her privacy.
“Never before has a victim been placed under such relentless public scrutiny. It is painful and unjust. I have reached a point where if the invasion of my privacy and the spreading of misinformation continue, I will be left with no choice but to pursue legal action,” she declared.
Pleading for the space to recover from the ordeal, Thobejane emphasized her need to heal “privately and peacefully,” affirming her resilience while acknowledging her humanity.
