DJ Tira, whose real name is Mthokozi Khathi, has officially announced that the long-running annual music event, FACT Durban Rocks, will conclude under its current ownership after the upcoming New Year’s Eve celebration.
The Afrotainment boss took to social media to share a statement revealing that the final event organized by the current team will take place on December 31st, and the brand’s trademarks will be put up for sale in January 2026.

Decision Driven by Early Closing Times
Tira explained that the decision was influenced by months of public feedback concerning the city’s early closing times for New Year’s Eve events.
“Since July, we have received many concerns about us closing early at midnight for NYE, and we understand those sentiments. We wanted to observe how the response would be regarding the New Year’s Eve closing times from the city before determining our next steps.”
The event, which has operated twice a year from 6 PM to 6 AM since 2011, has been impacted by the earlier municipal deadlines.

A Resilient Legacy Ends at a Milestone
Tira reflected on FACT’s impressive history and resilience:
- This December marks the 30th FACT event—a “significant milestone.”
- He celebrated the brand as “the first brand to emerge from COVID with two picnics and the only event to host two outdoor broadcasts during that challenging period.”
Viewing the 30th installment as the perfect conclusion, Tira stated that it’s time to allow “new talent to take over.”
Gratitude to the ‘Fact Fans’
The producer expressed deep gratitude to the community, sponsors, and supporters who sustained the event for over a decade, thanking the loyal attendees who showed up “through rain or shine” and embraced the event’s late-night tradition.
The final FACT Durban Rocks event, themed #OneLastFact, will take place on December 31st, running from 2 PM to 2 AM.
“Thank you for being part of our journey. It has been an honor to serve this community of Fact Fans and hopefully we see you for one more time.”
