The reigning Betway Premiership champions are wasting no time in the market. Mamelodi Sundowns are on the verge of announcing their first major blockbuster signing of the transfer window after reaching a full agreement with Austrian club SV Ried for the transfer of explosive winger Antonio van Wyk.
The Brazilians have long been admirers of the 24-year-old attacker, tracking him for several months and testing SV Ried’s resolve with an unsuccessful bid back in January. Now, the persistence has paid off.
Medical Complete & Personal Terms Agreed
According to renowned SABC Sport journalist Mazola Molefe, the deal is practically over the line:
- The Clubs: Sundowns and SV Ried have officially agreed on a transfer fee.
- The Player: Van Wyk has already successfully passed his medical examinations and finalized personal terms with the Chloorkop management.
With all major hurdles cleared, only the formal administrative paperwork remains before Masandawana can officially unveil their newest attacking weapon ahead of the new campaign.
The Return of a Proven Premiership Talent
Van Wyk’s impending move brings one of South Africa’s most promising young talents back to local soil.
The Belhar-born winger originally made his name under coach Steve Barker at Stellenbosch FC, where he graduated from the prestigious Ubuntu Football Academy. During a stellar 77-appearance stint in the Winelands, Van Wyk played a pivotal role in lifting the 2023 Carling Knockout trophy and earned call-ups to South Africa’s COSAFA Cup squads.
He departed for Austria in September 2024, joining up with former mentor Moritz Kossmann at SV Ried. His European adventure was a massive success, culminating in helping SV Ried secure promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga.
Now, less than two years after heading abroad, Van Wyk is heading home to join the ultimate dominant force in South African club football.
