Thapelo Maseko has officially closed the Mamelodi Sundowns chapter of his career, sending an emotional message to Masandawana before beginning a new adventure in Denmark.
The 22-year-old winger has completed his move to FC Copenhagen, signing a four-year contract with the Danish giants.
As he prepares for life in Europe, Maseko took a moment to reflect on the club that helped shape his career.
Maseko’s emotional Sundowns farewell
Maseko thanked Mamelodi Sundowns for the memories, opportunities and lessons he experienced during his time at Chloorkop.
The former SuperSport United youngster quickly established himself as one of South Africa’s most exciting attacking talents after joining Sundowns.
His breakthrough came during the club’s historic African Football League campaign in 2023. Maseko scored against Al Ahly in the semi-final and finished the tournament with both the Player of the Tournament and Golden Boot awards.
Those performances also helped him earn greater recognition at international level with Bafana Bafana.
From Chloorkop to Copenhagen
Maseko now faces an exciting new challenge in European football.
FC Copenhagen have handed the young winger the No. 12 shirt, with the club viewing him as a dynamic attacker capable of operating on either flank and using his pace to exploit space.
For Maseko, the transfer represents more than simply a change of clubs. It is an opportunity to test himself in a new league and continue developing his career abroad.
“It’s time for a new chapter but the memories will stay with me forever.”
His final message to the Sundowns faithful was simple:
“Thank you Masandawana. Phakamis’u 7.”
From Chloorkop to Copenhagen, Maseko’s next chapter has officially begun.
