Wandile Duba’s impressive hat-trick against TS Galaxy has earned him widespread praise from Kaizer Chiefs supporters, with some fans suggesting that the young striker is one of the few players consistently showing passion for the badge. But is the criticism of the rest of the squad justified?
Orlando Pirates vs Kaizer Chiefs: The Soweto Derby Awaits
All eyes turn to Orlando Stadium on Saturday, 31 October 2026, when Kaizer Chiefs face fierce rivals Orlando Pirates in one of South African football’s biggest fixtures.
The Betway Premiership showdown is scheduled to kick off at 15:30, with both teams looking to build momentum as the season progresses.
For Chiefs, the derby arrives at a crucial point in what has been a challenging campaign. Despite remaining unbeaten in the league after eight matches, the Glamour Boys have struggled to turn draws into victories, leaving them trailing their title rivals.
Chiefs Under Pressure in the Title Race
Kaizer Chiefs have found themselves playing catch-up early in the campaign, sitting nine points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and eight points behind Orlando Pirates, according to the figures reported ahead of the derby.
Their recent form across competitions has also raised concerns, with the club managing just two wins in their previous eight matches.
However, there was a welcome boost in the Telkom Knockout, where Chiefs defeated TS Galaxy 3-0. The standout performer was 22-year-old striker Wandile Duba, who scored all three goals to deliver a memorable victory.
His hat-trick was particularly significant, marking the first time a Kaizer Chiefs player had scored a treble in the competition since 1996.
Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates also progressed with a convincing 3-0 win over Milford FC. Tshepang Moremi impressed with two goals and an assist, giving the Buccaneers their own reason for confidence heading into the derby.
Wandile Duba Wins Over the Amakhosi Faithful
Duba’s performance against TS Galaxy has strengthened his standing among Kaizer Chiefs supporters. Fans on the club’s official Facebook page have praised his work rate, commitment and determination to make an impact.
Some supporters have gone further, arguing that Duba is the only player in the current squad who consistently plays with genuine passion for the club.
The comments have sparked a broader conversation about the team’s performances, with questions being raised about whether other players are showing the same urgency and commitment expected when wearing the famous gold and black jersey.
While one outstanding performance does not necessarily tell the full story of a player’s season, Duba’s display offered a timely reminder of what Chiefs supporters want to see from their team: hunger, intensity and a willingness to fight for every ball.
Can Duba Make His Mark Against Orlando Pirates?
The next challenge is a much bigger one. Facing Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby will test Duba and his teammates against one of their fiercest rivals, with the pressure and expectations certain to be high.
Chiefs will need more than individual brilliance if they are to secure a positive result. Their players must combine discipline, creativity and determination to compete with a Pirates side that has also shown its attacking threat.
For Duba, the derby offers an opportunity to build on his performance against TS Galaxy and demonstrate that he can deliver when the stakes are even higher.
Ultimately, the question goes beyond one player. Can Kaizer Chiefs turn the energy displayed in their cup victory into consistent performances across the squad?
Do you agree with Chiefs supporters who believe Wandile Duba is the only player consistently showing passion for the badge, or are other Amakhosi players being unfairly criticised? Share your thoughts ahead of the Soweto Derby.
