Former Kaizer Chiefs star Patrick Mayo has shared his heartfelt expectations for his son, Khanyisa Mayo, who recently joined the Soweto giants on loan from Algerian side CR Belouizdad. The father’s wish for the young striker is simple and ambitious: goals and trophies for the club.

Solving the Goal Crisis
Patrick Mayo, known for his versatility and goal-scoring during his tenure with the Glamour Boys (2003-2007), expressed his confidence in his son’s potential to succeed where the team has struggled.
- Simple Ambition: When asked about his hopes for Khanyisa’s career at Naturena, Mayo Sr. stated directly: “For him to score goals. For him to win trophies.”
- Addressing a Chiefs Problem: He added that he wishes for Khanyisa to “solve the team’s problem of lacking goals.”
- Confidence in Success: Mayo Sr. concluded with a statement of belief: “I’m confident he’s going to win trophies. Even if it’s not with Chiefs, but personally, he will.”

Exceeding the Father
Khanyisa Mayo, who started his Chiefs career with one goal in his first five outings before being sidelined by injury, is following in his father’s footsteps. Patrick Mayo revealed he encourages his son’s ambition to surpass his own achievements.
- Family Bragging Rights: When jokingly asked by the host whether the younger Mayo is better than him, Mayo Sr. replied with a grin: “He must be better than me. Uwayazi kaloku [You know how it is], he’s always bragging that he’s better than me, and I like that. I want him to be better than myself.”
The former player’s endorsement places a significant but supportive expectation on his son as Khanyisa seeks to settle into life at Amakhosi and fulfill his father’s wish of returning silverware to the club.
