In a bone-crunching display of North-South rivalry, the DHL Stormers maintained their dominance over the Vodacom Bulls, grinding out a gritty 13–8 victory in front of a sold-out, 40,000-strong crowd at Cape Town Stadium.
The match lived up to its “blockbuster” billing, defined not by high-scoring flares, but by a brutal defensive chess match and a atmosphere that felt more like a Test match than a club game.
A First-Half: 8–5
The first 40 minutes were a war of attrition. Both teams brought championship-level intensity to the breakdown, making every inch of the Cape Town turf hard-earned.

- The Bulls Strike: The Pretoria side struck first through the boot of Handre Pollard, followed by a clinical team try that silenced the home crowd early on.
- The Stormers Respond: Led by captain Salmaan Moerat, the Stormers clawed back. After a period of relentless pressure in the Bulls’ “Red Zone,” Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu slotted a penalty before a spectacular out-wide finish by Leolin Zas leveled the scores.
- The Score at the Break: Stormers headed into the tunnels at 8–5 over Bulls with everything to play for in the second stanza.
Second Half: Stormers Find the Edge
The second half was a masterclass in game management by Stormers coach John Dobson. While the Bulls threw everything into their set-pieces, the Stormers’ “Bomb Squad” replacements provided the spark needed to break the stalemate.
The decisive moment came midway through the half when Warrick Gelant produced a moment of magic, drawing in three defenders before offloading to Damian Willemse, who crossed the line for the match-winning score. Despite a desperate late surge by the Bulls, the Stormers’ “Blue Wall” defense held firm until the final whistle.
Final Score: 13–8 win by DHL Stormers.
