Back to where it all began

South African star Thobani Dlomo Nzuza is officially returning to the boards. After seven years of dominating television screens, the multi-talented actor and playwright has announced a deeply personal comeback to his first love: the theatre.

In an emotional Instagram post, Nzuza reflected on his “humble beginnings” in 2016 and 2017, reminding fans that before the fame, there was only “faith, courage, and a community that believed in a nobody.”

The Journey: From Zabalaza to Stardom

Nzuza credited his early success to the grassroots support of figures like Reggie Mampensela Ndlovu and Menzi Mkhwane, who helped him reach the Zabalaza Theatre Festival in Cape Town during his breakout years. That pivotal trip resulted in Nzuza walking away with Best Production and Best Actor—awards that changed the trajectory of his life.

Now, he returns not just as a seasoned TV professional, but as a storyteller eager to celebrate the resilience of young artists.

The Production: “Boy Ntulikazi”

The comeback vehicle is none other than the multi-award-winning play Boy Ntulikazi, a production so influential it has been published as a school textbook.

  • Written by: Thobani Nzuza & Kagiso Tshimakwane
