The Absa Run Your City Cape Town 10K moves its finish line to the iconic Grand Parade for 2026.

The most anticipated 10K road race in the Mother City is reaching a historic milestone. For its 2026 edition, the Absa Run Your City Cape Town 10K has announced a significant route overhaul that will see thousands of runners finish at one of South Africa’s most storied landmarks.

On Sunday, 10 May 2026, a record-breaking field of over 15,000 athletes will trade the traditional Lower Long Street finish line for the majestic Grand Parade, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Cape Town City Hall and Table Mountain.

The New Route: What Runners Need to Know

While the early stages of the race remain a high-speed coastal dash, the final kilometers within the Central Business District (CBD) have been completely reimagined to offer a more scenic and iconic experience.

  • The Start: Runners will still kick off at Woodbridge Island in Milnerton at 09:00, heading through Paarden Eiland and entering the city via the N1.
  • The CBD Diversion: Upon reaching the Coen Steytler Roundabout, the pack will now move into Walter Sisulu Avenue and turn into the heart of Long Street.
  • The Historic Finish: The route climbs Long Street for 1.2km before turning into Wale Street, descending Adderley Street, and making the final turn into Darling Street. The race concludes at the Grand Parade, placing runners in the very spot where history has been made for decades.

Transforming the Race Atmosphere

Organizers believe this change elevates the event from a standard road race to a true city showcase. By moving the finish to the Grand Parade, the “Run Your City” series maximizes its commitment to highlighting urban landmarks.

The new layout provides a natural amphitheater for spectators, live entertainment, and sponsor activations, ensuring that the post-race “vibe” is more electric than ever before.

Logistics and Commuter Impact

With 15,000 runners taking to the streets, Cape Town residents should prepare for significant travel adjustments:

  • Road Closures: Major arteries including Marine Drive, Long Street, Wale Street, and Adderley Street will be closed to vehicle traffic throughout Sunday morning.
  • Public Transport: Certain MyCiTi bus routes in the CBD and Hout Bay corridor will be affected.
  • Runner Shuttles: A dedicated shuttle service will operate from the Golden Arrow Bus Terminus to the Milnerton start line for all registered participants.
