Renowned comedian Mpho Popps has broken his silence following a viral incident involving celebrity gossip blogger Musa Khawula. The conflict ignited after Khawula allegedly targeted Popps’ daughter, Naledi, making disparaging remarks about her appearance based on a photo shared by the comedian.
Crossing the Red Line
Speaking on the People Need Comedy (PNC) podcast—part of the popular Podcast and Chill network—Popps delivered a stern warning. While he is known for his lighthearted nature, his tone shifted to one of protective fatherhood as he addressed the blogger’s habit of involving children in celebrity “tea.”
“The blogger has gone after my child. I’m still gonna deal with [him]. Eyamadoda ayipheli (a matter between men never ends),” Popps stated firmly.
Nothing Else to Go After
Popps suggested that the move to target his family stems from a lack of “dirt” on his professional life. He noted that critics have tried and failed to rattle him by attacking his marriage or his status in the industry in the past.
“You can’t go after my career. You can’t say I’m up-and-coming; my career is doing quite well,” he explained. He views the attack on his daughter as a desperate attempt to provoke a reaction from a man whose personal and professional life remains stable.
Public Backlash
The internet has largely rallied behind Popps. Social media users have condemned the trend of “dragging” the children of public figures, calling for more ethical boundaries in celebrity reporting. For Popps, the message is simple: Attack the craft, but leave the family out of it.
