In a move that has stunned the South African hip-hop community, rapper Emtee has publicly apologized to long-time rival Cassper Nyovest, signaling a potential end to years of tension between the two superstars.
Taking to the social platform X (formerly Twitter), the “Roll Up” hitmaker expressed regret for his past actions and disrespected stance toward the Family Tree founder.
Thank You for Paving the Way
Emtee’s message was surprisingly candid, moving past mere apologies to recognize Cassper’s foundational role in modern SA hip-hop. He revealed he has always been a fan, even purchasing Cassper’s groundbreaking 2014 debut album, Tsholofelo.
“@casspernyovest I’m sorry for all the times I disrespected you. Thank you for all the deep conversations. I have nothing against you,” Emtee wrote. “I bought your album Tsholofelo n still have it. I dont pose no threat. Thank you for paving the way for us.”
A Shift Toward Industry Unity
This public reconciliation is a major milestone for SA hip-hop. Rising to prominence around the same time in the mid-2010s, both artists were often pitted against each other by fans and media, leading to a largely frosty relationship.
Emtee’s gesture is being widely viewed as a mature step toward fostering unity within an industry often plagued by infighting. While Cassper Nyovest has not yet publicly responded to the olive branch, fans are hopeful this marks the beginning of a mutual respect—or perhaps even a future collaboration.
