The University of Cape Town (UCT) set a proactive agenda for the future of higher education during its annual Heads of Mission Breakfast held on February 12, 2026.
Hosted by Vice-Chancellor Professor Mosa Moshabela, the event brought together international diplomats to explore the theme: “The future of education, research, science, technology and innovation: Building bridges for global progress.”

A Global Focus on Collaborative Innovation
The breakfast served as a platform for dialogue between UCT leadership and key international partners, including the High Commissioner of Canada, along with ambassadors from Sweden, Brazil, and the European Union Delegation.
The discussions emphasized the necessity of integrating academic research with practical application to tackle global challenges.
“What we see in UCT’s plan is a redoubling of its efforts to be agile in its innovation and to be able to respond to the challenges in a way which brings together industry, academia and business,” said UCT Emeritus Professor Danie Visser.
By fostering these international relationships, UCT aims to ensure that research conducted within its walls has a tangible, positive impact on the global stage.
