Kaizer Chiefs have officially announced the blockbuster acquisition of Bafana Bafana international goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner.
The 28-year-old shot-stopper arrives at Naturena as a highly sought-after free agent following his departure from Sekhukhune United. He becomes Amakhosi’s second major reinforcement of the transfer window, following the previous arrival of defender Thabo Moloisane from Stellenbosch FC.
A Safe Pair of Hands: Leaner’s Profile
- International Pedigree: Leaner’s clinical form for Sekhukhune United earned him regular call-ups to Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana national squad, making his international debut in June 2025.
- Proven PSL Excellence: Rising through the Ajax Cape Town youth academy, the Cape Town-born keeper enjoyed stellar top-flight stints at Maritzburg United and Sekhukhune United, famously putting on a masterclass clean-sheet performance against Mamelodi Sundowns.
- Brains and Brawn: Off the field, Leaner boasts an elite academic portfolio. He holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of the Western Cape, alongside postgraduate certifications in Sport Psychology (UNISA) and Sport Science (University of Pretoria).
With Kaizer Chiefs locked into a demanding domestic itinerary and a highly anticipated continental campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup, adding Leaner provides massive competition and depth to the Amakhosi goalkeeping department.
