Ireland lock James Ryan has been handed a three-match suspension for a dangerous clearout at a ruck during the team’s 24-13 defeat against the Springboks last Saturday in Dublin.

The 29-year-old was initially issued a yellow card by referee Matthew Carley for a head-high challenge on Springboks hooker Malcolm Marx. However, the offence was subsequently upgraded to a 20-minute red card after 20 minutes of the match.
🗓️ Missing Key Fixtures
The British and Irish Lions second-row forward is set to miss several key fixtures for his province, Leinster. The ban will definitely rule him out of:
- Leinster’s match against the Welsh region Dragons this Friday.
- The Champions Cup opener against Harlequins on December 6.

Ryan could potentially have the ban reduced to just two matches if he participates in World Rugby’s Coaching Intervention Programme. If he completes the program, he may be eligible to return for the Champions Cup trip to Leicester on December 12.
