Blaklez is set to release “Mabadi” on 2 October 2026. The Setswana-titled single explores real-life experiences and the scars they leave behind.

Blaklez is preparing to turn lived experiences and the realities of the world around him into music with his upcoming single, “Mabadi.”

The South African rapper, journalist and producer, whose real name is Lesego Moiloa, announced the release on social media on Wednesday, sharing a promotional clip alongside a message about the unavoidable influence of real-world events on an artist’s work.

“Sometimes we can’t avoid real-world events in our craft.”

The rapper confirmed that “Mabadi” will be released on 2 October 2026, with fans already able to pre-save the track.

The Meaning Behind “Mabadi”

“Mabadi” translates to “scars” in Setswana, a title that hints at a song centred on the lasting marks left by difficult experiences.

Those scars can come from personal struggles, social realities or events beyond an individual’s control. Blaklez’s announcement suggests that the forthcoming track will examine how those experiences can inevitably find their way into an artist’s creative expression.

Blaklez is credited as the writer, while longtime collaborator Beatmochini handled the composition, mixing and mastering.

Blaklez Continues a Reflective Approach

The upcoming release fits into a broader pattern in Blaklez’s career, with the artist frequently combining personal reflection with observations about his surroundings.

His catalogue includes projects such as Black Beast, A Broken Man’s Dream and Loyal to the Soil, while his Cool&Blak partnership with Jay Jody has provided another platform for his evolving sound.

Blaklez’s long-standing connection to Pretoria’s hip-hop scene, alongside his experience in South African music media, has also kept him close to conversations shaping the local culture.

With “Mabadi”, he appears set to continue using music as a space to process the experiences and realities that leave lasting impressions.

“Mabadi” drops on 2 October 2026.
